Two Print Lab options for the Winter session:
Dec - Print Lab: Exploring Alternative Lithography
Dec 4, Dec 11, and Dec 18 ***Please note this is a 3-week workshop***
1-4pm
Tuition: $130 ($120 member) plus a $20 materials fee paid to the instructor
This workshop is designed for artists interested in exploring lithography plates that are more convenient and easier to use than the traditional heavy stones. Participants will learn about two types of lithography: Pronto Plate and Paper Plate Lithography. Paper Plate Lithography uses a paper photocopy or laser print as a printing plate. Pronto plates are polyester plates suitable for freehand drawing and painting—where we will experiment with various materials—or photographic images created by a photocopier or laser printer. These plates are more durable than paper, although paper copies coated with Gum Arabic can also produce striking transferred prints that can be used alone, registered for multicolor work, or layered in mixed media. The plates will be printed on our large etching press. Participants should bring a couple of 22” x 30” sheets of paper, such as Legion Stonehenge (250 gsm) or Rives BFK (280 gsm), along with an 18’ x 24” newsprint pad. All other materials are provided. You may bring previous works, such as monoprints or relief prints, to use for layering. Some experience in printmaking is helpful, but beginners are welcome.
January - Print Lab: Screenprinting Studio – Small Editions.
Jan 8, 15, 22, and 29
1-4pm
Tuition: $170 ($160 member) plus a $25 materials fee paid to the instructor.
Experience the creative possibilities of non-toxic screenprinting while creating your own small edition of original prints. Use paper stencils, hand-cut films, drawing fluid, photo emulsion, monoprint, texture printing, and found materials as you experiment with color, layering, and registration. Throughout the workshop, you'll develop your imagery from initial experiments into a finished edition of hand-pulled prints. Learn professional printmaking practices including editioning, signing, numbering, paper selection, and presentation. Perfect for beginners and artists interested in expanding their printmaking practice. No prior screenprinting experience is necessary. A $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the workshop.
