This class will help you blend your strengths and passions in visual problem solving and imagination into a cohesive body of artwork. Students will be challenged and encouraged to explore different techniques to develop their artistic voice during the creative process. 


 


Rona Richter


Rona received her BFA in Painting from the University of the Arts.  She continued her graduate studies at Columbia University, the New York Studio School, and at Tyler University.  Rona has also studied hand papermaking in Japan, Thailand and Burma.  She is an award winning exhibitor in the American Color Print Society show, Artists' Cultural Exchange and various other national shows.  She has taught at Bucks County Community College, Perkins Center for the Arts and the Abington Art Center.

Teen artists,work on different wheel and hand building projects guided toward strengthening your portfolio! Students will hone their personal point of view through creating functional and sculptural objects as well as gain a clear understanding of decoration techniques using slips, under glazes and glazes. Students will learn to actualize their creative ideas through investigation and constructive critique.

 

Patti Nelson

Patti Nelson has an MFA in Ceramics from SUNY New Paltz, where she was a Sojourner Truth Fellow. She has a BA in Fine Art with departmental honors from Hunter College, NYC, and majored in Integrative Studies, International Relations and Women Studies with a minor in Comparative Religion from Hendrix College, Conway, AR. Patti Nelson has shown nationally and internationally including DC, Seattle, and NYC (Chelsea and Brooklyn), and Budapest, Hungary. She has taught at the university level, in elementary schools, at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY and currently teaches at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts in Philadelphia where she is the ceramics artist in residence.

Work on individual hand building and wheel projects using high fire clays.  There will be weekly demonstrations teaching students more advanced pottery techniques with individual attention given to each student.

Colleen graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fines Arts and received her BFA from the University of Pennsylvania. She currently resides in Moorestown, NJ where she was born and raised. She is an art educator and currently works for the Mural Arts Program, ArtWorks!, and the Saturday Arts Lab at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. She is also the Painting and Printmaking artist in residence at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts.

Developed for the beginning artist, the foundation drawing class is intended to serve as a thorough introduction to technical and aesthetic issues in drawing, covering all aspects of representation in black and white media. Students will have a solid grasp of rendering light and shade, line, mass and volume, as well as depicting perspective with respect to still life compositions and the figure in the environment at the end of the class.

This class is designed for high school students who love clay and want to continue their work throughout the summer months.  Individual attention will be given to each student, encouraging them to find their own voice in clay and create a strong portfolio of their work.  Handbuilding, wheel and slip casting projects can all be worked on during class time.  Students enrolled in this class can also participate in the Open Studios at the Center.  There is a $5 charge per session.

Work with one of this area's finest painting teachers and develop compelling portfolio pieces to be used for your college interviews.  Work with one of the painting instructor from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and produce at least four finished pieces at the end of this eight week session.  Individual attention will be given to each student.
