Juror’s Statement

Thank you for the opportunity to juror the Member Show. It was great pleasure to see a range of media as well as a mix of traditional to contemporary works. Now that we live in a largely digital world it reminds me how essential it is to see work in person; to see scale, texture, technique and the thought in its presentation. It is a great reminder why these opportunities are so invaluable to someone who may be beginning their practice to established artists.

As someone who works with artists on a daily basis and is an artist it’s always necessary to learn about people or guilds that I am unfamiliar with as well as become reacquainted with those that are not a part of my immediate circle.  It never ceases to amaze me of the richness of talent in the Philadelphia region and the community organizations that foster and nurture their practice and how vitally important they are to the arts and cultural community.

Juror’s Bio

We are pleased and honored to welcome Rachel Zimmerman as the juror of this year’s Membership Show.

Rachel Zimmerman is the Executive Director of InLiquid. Zimmerman graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Photography. She established Rachel Zimmerman Photography in 1994 with a concentration on black and white printing and medical photography. In 1999 Zimmerman founded InLiquid to increase community and visibility for independent artists; the site now has approximately 270 members, which includes artists from across the country. In her role as Executive Director of InLiquid, she has created opportunities for independent artists and arts organizations, not only through the web site but through a series of curated gallery exhibitions in various locations.
