Multi-media instruction is given in a group setting designed to develop a personal approach.

Areas covered include watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media and drawing and painting

from still lifes and models. Discussions and critiques expand the experience.

Paul Kane

Studied at Atelier D'Andre L'Hute in Paris and received a certificate and a Cresson and Schedidt grants from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  He has participated in numerous group and one man exhibitions throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.  Selected collections include The Aldrich Museum, Plicker Art Museum, Colgate University, The Thomas Evans Museum at the University of Pennsylvania, The University of Delaware, and The Saatchi Collection - London.  He is represented by the Sande Webster Gallery in Philadelphia.

Children will participate in a story-drama. Each week features a new story!

Children will participate in a story-drama. The teacher will introduce a contemporary or classic children’s story. Children will then use basic acting skills and improv techniques to become any character in the story, then act it out with the rest of the class as an ensemble. Each week features a new story!

Dustin Karrat

 Dustin is a Philadelphia based actor, certified fight choreographer with the Society of American Fight Directors, and teaching artist. He is also the co-founder of Dark Star Theatre, a new company specializing in Czech style blacklight and puppetry.

 

Dustin has worked with People's Light and Theatre, Hedgerow Theatre, Azuka Theatre, Philadelphia Young Playwrights,and the Cheltenham Center for the Arts Summer Art Camp program, among others.

Improv, projection, and basic acting techniques will be taught in a joyous atmosphere!

Acting 101 (Ages 10-12)

Instructor: Dustin Karrat

Mondays, 6:30-8:30 pm, Class #: C-22 (8 class sessions)

Tuition: $145 (Members: $130)

This course will introduce students to the basic principles of Acting. Students will learn projection, enunciation, blocking, and how to effectively express themselves honestly on stage. They will learn to analyze a section of script and develop a character based on those observations. We will develop an acting vernacular, culminating in partnered scenes using age-appropriate texts.

Playing Drama (Ages 7-9)

Starting with a simple object, picture, or song, students will learn to utilize improvisation and playing skills to develop their own world to explore as a group.  We will build characters based on voice work and physical choices to inhabit this world.  Imagination and cooperation will be the skills we focus on cultivating as we create and play together!

 

Bailey Shaw

Bailey earned her BFA in Acting from Arcadia Universiity, Bailey has been a member of the Cheltenham Center for the Arts staff for two years.  She specializes in improv, movement and laughter.  Known to many of the camp students, Bailey is also a very serious actor who is willing to share her knowledge with you.  She is currently working on various theater projects in the greater Philadelphia area.

Intermediate/Advanced Hand Building Techniques

Secrets Revealed!

Instructor: Patti Nelson

Wednesdays, 1 - 4 pm, Class #D15

Tuition: $260 (Members: $245)

 

This class will reveal secrets of top ceramic artists for more successful hand building.  From building large, to building thin and strong, patch and repair, avoiding cracks, plus paper clay, staining, marbling clay and much more.

 

This demonstration/tutorial class is sure to inspire and stretch imagination and skills for functional and sculptural artists at all levels.

 

Patti Nelson

Patti Nelson has an MFA in Ceramics from SUNY New Paltz, where she was a Sojourner Truth Fellow. She has a BA in Fine Art with departmental honors from Hunter College, NYC, and majored in Integrative Studies, International Relations and Women Studies with a minor in Comparative Religion from Hendrix College, Conway, AR. Patti Nelson has shown nationally and internationally including DC, Seattle, and NYC (Chelsea and Brooklyn), and Budapest, Hungary. She has taught at the university level, in elementary schools, at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY and currently teaches at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts in Philadelphia where she is the ceramics artist in residence.
