Intermediate and Advanced Jewelry Making
Instructor: Marthe Roberts Shea
Thursdays, 10 am - 1 pm, Class #D39
Tuition: $260 (Members: $245)
Students with basic skills will be able to further their work by exploring a wide range of jewelry making processes. You will learn non-complex metal forming, mechanisms and joining techniques.
 
Marthe Robers - Shea
Marthe Robers/Shea graduated from Moore College of Art, in Philadelphia, with a double Major in Advertising and Illustration. She has been Managing Art Director for Dupont de Namours Pharmaceuticals - Delaware, and CIGNA Corporation - Philadelphia. She has successfully run her own business, Taxi Graphics, Incorporated, since 1990. Skilled in electronic illustration and Graphic Design, she has created numerous award-winning pieces. She illustrates regularly for several Magazines. Her ability to communicate and grasp sometimes obscure ideas and concepts, and translate them into "client-pleasing" pieces is her primary strength. Marthe is a member of the Art Directors' Club of Philadelphia.  Marthe was recently elected the President of the American Society of Goldsmiths.

Non-Toxic Printmaking
Instructor: Merle Spandorfer Thursdays, 12:30-4:30 pm, Class # D26
Tuition: $250 (Members: $235)
Class includes demonstrations, critiques and instruction in a variety of printmaking media. Collographs, monoprints, monotypes, silkscreen, dry point etching, lino-cuts and wood cuts all with waterbased inks.
 
All levels welcome.
 
Merle Spandorfer
Merle holds a BS from Syracuse University.mHer work is in collections of PA Academy of Fine Arts, Phila. Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. She has had solo shows at Marian Locks Gallery, Mangel Gallery and Yoseido Gallery, Tokyo. Co-author of "Making Art Safely" published by Van Nostrand Reinhold.

Beginning Jewelry Making - Basic Bench Skills
Through instructor demonstration and "hands-on" practice, students will learn the fundamentals of Jewelry making:sawing, filing, soldering and polishing. 
 
No experience necessary.

Artist in Residence - Opening Reception
Cheltenham Center for the Arts will host its first annual Artists in Residence Show opening on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 5pm-7pm and on view through June 15, 2012. Three resident artists will be displaying their work and installations; Colleen Hammond, painting, Patti Nelson, ceramics and Jennifer Hermann, metals.

Cheltenham Center for the Arts joins with Open Book and continues a new author reading and conversation series, Philly Writes!, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 7-8pm. Two authors will read from their novels and tackle family issues within The Bird House, by Kelly Simmons and The Winters in Bloom by Lisa Tucker. $10 adults/ $5 children.
