July 7-18 Two Weeks of Ceramics! 9:30-3:30

 Ages 13-17- Ceramics:  Experiment with different forms in clay from slab construction to wheel throwing.  Class includes working on surface techniques, understanding glazes, and one gas firing.  Students will work alongside our kiln tech during the firing for the unique opportunity to learn about what it takes to run the big kiln!$550 ($535)



July 21-August 1 Art for the Park!

9:30-3:30 OR 9:30-12:30/12:30-3:30  Full or Half Day

Ages 13-17-




Mornings:  Kids work with High School Park staff to learn about/take care of parts of the park, including the butterfly garden and fire circle, for one hour each day ( 10 service hours earned) then spend the rest of the morning working on two art projects that will stay in the park as public art: 1) Create ceramic tiles for the stairs depicting plants/animals/trees discovered in the park (permanent), and 2)  construct a recycled art project that will decorate the park through the summer.




Afternoons: Plein Air Painting in the Park – Join professional painter/printmaker and teacher Marlene Adler for the unique experience of painting outside.  Students will learn the about a variety of techniques and best materials.   The park boasts 11 acres and 4 distinct ecosystems making for a one-of-a kind painting environment! A short exhibit of student work will be on view at the Elkins Park Train Station at the conclusion of this two week session.



July 21-July 25 Through the Camera- Claymation Stop Action video/Photography

9:30-3:30 - $300 ($285) OR $150 ($140)Ages 13-17- - Students will spend part of each day learning the process of creating their own stop action video.  Beginning with a storyboard, they will use clay or other movable pieces to film one short individual and one short group project.  In the afternoons the action switches to the basics of photography. 



July 28- Aug 1 9:30-3:30 Ages 13-17 – Pieces of Art-

Work with a variety of medium using small pieces to create a larger picture.  Students will complete projects in paper construction, collage and mosaics.- $300 ($285) OR $150 ($140)
