Painting on Plexi
Remove yourself from the confines of what you see with your eyes. In this workshop you will use plexiglass as the painting surface. The surprises thatit offers are exciting and very different than the effects you achieve ontraditional surfaces. You will learn how to create paintings on the back of the surface so that the viewer can see the veryfirst strokes that have been created, unlike conventional paintings where the first applications of paint are very often hidden. You are essentially painting backwards.

Make Your Mark! Journaling
Spend a whole delicious day with your journal! We’ll play games that I’ve invented especially for my Journaling classes. You’ll draw, write, play
with color, line, words and have a (written) conversation with yourinner critic. Japanese paper marbling, simple watercoloring, drawing tips, working in layers with collage and resists, location work and creating your own special symbol as a carved stamp will be some of the things we’ll do. Learning new techniques that you can use in many different artworks will be balanced with giving you time and space to explore and understand these techniques, and to listen to yourself and observe your world.
Instructor : Diana Trout

Fiber Sculpture
This workshop will focus on using free form crocheting and knitting techniques to create three-dimensional sculptures. We will address how yarns and other materials can be used as formal elements to inform texture, shape, fluidity and plasticity. Students are encouraged to bring in old stockpiles of yarn, or unfinished, otherwise discarded projects. Such materials can be recycled and infused with new life for use in these sculptural projects.
Instructor: Rachel Udell

Course#: W-41
Day: June 25

Painting Intuitively
This course is for the artist who has the desire to experience a more intuitive way of painting. Observation and memory will be used for a point of departure. Allowing your instincts and knowledge of paint to guide you and view unintentional occurrencesas opportunites to discover new possibilities. Experiment with new ways of applying paint to a surface. Individual assistance and group critique will be a continual process.
Ongoing discussions will focus upon a number of complex issues, such as the relationship between technical skill and personal sensibility; rational decision making vs. intuitive hand. Examples from contemporary and modern art will serve to broaden understanding of innovative painting.
Instructor: Karen Baumeister
