Painting, Drawing & Printmaking

Adventures in Creative Expression –
All levels welcome! Instruction in composition, color theory
and painting techniques in oils, acrylics, collage, watercolor,
and pastel. Model or still life set up for every class. Personal
growth and expression are emphasized in class critiques. Please
bring: charcoal, a 6B pencil, 18” x 24” newsprint pad.

Independent Study in Painting & Drawing –
Multi-media instruction is given in a group setting designed to
develop a personal approach. Areas covered include watercolor,
acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media and drawing and painting from
models. Discussions and critiques expand the art experience.

Non-Toxic Printmaking –
Class includes demonstrations, critiques and instruction in a
variety of printmaking media. Collographs, monoprints, monotypes,
silkscreen, dry point etching, lino-cuts and wood cuts all
with waterbased inks. All levels.

Sculpture

Ceramic Sculpture –
Clay is a material of unlimited technical and creative uses.
It’s excellent for many types of sculpture, from figurative
to architectural. Students explore a variety of ceramic
sculpture techniques, including a broad range of surface
treatments, from glaze to patina.

Sculptural Assemblage –
Sculpture can be made from everyday objects that surround
us. Assembled found object sculpture can be as diverse as
Marcel Duchamp’s ready mades or Andy Goldsworthy’s
natural constructions. This class will develop the student’s
style of sculptural assemblage, from combining traditional
materials to found object construction.

Ceramics

Pottery: Basics & Beyond –
This class will introduce students to the practice of making
pottery. Beginners learn the basics of centering, shaping, and
trimming clay on the wheel. Intermediate students will refine
skills in making cups, vases, bowls, and more! All students
receive individual instruction at their skill level and will be
guided through creative projects and experiments.

A Painterly Approach to Glazing –
All levels welcome! In this course you will work with
glazes, under glazes, and slips to create rich, painterly
surfaces on your own hand built objects. Slide presentations,
demonstrations of technique, and critiques by instructor.

Pottery – Exploration in Clay
Students learn pottery production skills (throwing and hand
building) to promote a mature style tailored to each individual.
Aesthetics are emphasized. Included is an introduction to
glaze chemistry and use. Clay and glazes used are both high
and low fire. Class limit 9.

Independent Ceramics Studio –
Studio time for advanced students looking to work on selfdirected
throwing or hand building projects. High-fire and
low-fire clay, slips and glazes will be available.

Pottery Form and Function –
Students of all levels will develop their technical skills and
explore aesthetics as they apply to both functional and
non-functional forms. Beginners will learn basic throwing
and hand building techniques.

Intro to Pottery / Building Pottery Skills –
This class is for beginners as well as more experienced
potters. Beginners will be introduced to various hand building
techniques as well as the basic workings of the wheel. More
advanced students will have the opportunity to set individual
goals intended to improve and expand their skills.

Ceramic Hand Building –
Explore a variety of techniques using textured slabs to
form functional vessles as well a sculptural forms. All
levels welcome.

Clay Policy  
 

Clay is available for purchase from teacher during class by cash or check. Cost is $25 per 25lb. bag, which includes firing fees. Clay brought in from outside sourses must be approved by the instructor and a $10 firing fee to be paid to the CCA.
